LINKEDIN TIPS FOR BUSINESS

  • LINKEDIN SEARCH

I put a status up on my LinkedIn profile asking if anyone could recommend a venue in central London – I was finding a new place to host the Mum To Millionaire Meet Ups. Within an hour I had a few people recommend some places but then I saw a comment from a lady called Tyra. She was the marketing manager at a restaurant in London and wasn’t one of my LinkedIn connections.

She left a comment on my status saying she would love to help host the meetup, left her phone number and email address.

Now, my meet ups will be held at Tyra’s restaurant all from a simple interaction on Linkedin.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS LINKEDIN TIP FOR FOR BUSINESS

I asked Tyra how she found me on LinkedIn, as I wasn’t one of her connections. She found me through LinkedIn search.

Every day Tyra goes on LinkedIn and types in keywords to the search bar like ‘venue in London ‘bar in London’

That’s how I came up as my status said ‘I’m looking for a venue in London

Something so simple which so many people aren’t doing, especially as LinkedIn is still very much underutilised.

  • FIND RELEVANT PEOPLE TO CONNECT WITH

Look for people you actually want to connect with. When Christmas is approaching, Tyra will search for local businesses close to the bar she is managing as she wants them to use her venue for their Christmas parties.

Once she has found these local businesses, she will then go through their employee lists and connect with the PA of the manager or the events coordinator.

As with emails, some people may not respond to their Linkedin messages, so I asked Tyra ‘How many people do you approach on Linkedin from one business?’

If its a big business, Tyra will then contact more than one person and keep trying to make contact with them. Remember there is a thin line between persistence and being annoying, so be careful!

  • BUILD RELATIONSHIPS ON LINKEDIN

No one wants to be sold to. I know this is a ‘LinkedIn tips for business’  article and we are here to sell a product or service at the end of the day! But remember people do business with people.

Invest in building relationships first and offer them something.

Tyra will email her new Linkedin business contacts and invite them down to look at the venue, she leads them in with some free drinks. No one is going to say no to that.

They enjoy themselves and the venue gets the business. Win – Win for everyone.

  • KEEP YOUR LINKEDIN BUSINESS CONTENT ENGAGING

Don’t constantly be selling something. Give Linkedin users a glimpse into your business and don’t be afraid to post fun activities, like if you had a ‘bring your dog to work day’

Fun posts break up the same mundane content and keep your business engaging.

  • WHAT AT THE COMPETITION DOING ON LINKEDIN?

The third and final Linkedin tip for business is to analyse what your competitors are doing online. Don’t stalk them and don’t compare yourself to them!

Remember that is a waste of your precious time and energy.

With Tyra running a bar in central London she is very aware that there are thousands of other bars in the capital. She keeps up-to-date with what they are doing by checking out their business Linkedin page. I love Tyra’s terminology for this ‘Professional Facebook Stalking’

It’s a great Linkedin for business tip as it can inspire so many ideas you can try out in your own business.

For example, it gives Tyra inspiration on different entertainment acts she could book or new decorations to buy.

FINAL LINKEDIN FOR BUSINESS TIPS

Don’t get disheartened if no one likes your LinkedIn posts. They are still getting pushed out into the Linkedin feed. I know this is true as some of my own posts get very little engagement but when I see a business colleague out they will talk to me about one of my Linkedin statuses.

They didn’t like or comment but they saw it!

Be persistent, take advantage of Linkedin search and really understand why you are on that social media platform. Keep building business relationships.
