Beautiful Business Mum: Caroline Jenkins, Mum of 2 from Thurrock, Essex

Business: Travel Counsellor

Inspirational quote: Live for the moment

CONGRATULATIONS to Caroline for being featured as Mum of the Month. The Mum of 2 wasn’t happy with her job in the city so took a risk and started her own travel business from scratch. She loves what she does and thrives off making her clients happy.

I love her motivation and willingness to help others. Here’s her story…….

Why did you start your business?

I started my business in Jan 2014. Previously I had been working in the travel industry for 18 years. I started my own business because I wanted to spend more time with my family, branch out and be my own boss. I wanted to work when it suited me.

I also used to dread going to the office and now I love what I do – it’s not a job to me, it’s my passion.

What’s been your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?

Working from home has been great but it has been my biggest challenge! There are so many distractions. You really have to stay motivated, super focused and disciplined. I also didn’t come with a client base, so I had to build that up, which is more difficult than I thought it would be.

Motivation for Mums

How do you get more clients?

I overcame the client base challenge by getting out there. I always go to networking and joined different clubs. Always start with your friends and family – ask them to recommend your services to people. You can’t be pushy either – I gently remind people that if they need a holiday booked for them to contact me.

My business is heavily reliant on recommendations. So the better my service the more people that will recommend my services.

What keeps you motivated?

By making a plan –  I write down where I want to be in the next 24 months. My children also keep me motivated. I am very determined to give them all I can.

Plus I don’t want anyone to see me fail! So that’s keep me very motivated.

know your why business tip

How do you stay motivated to make your business and family life a success?

I surround myself with positive people. I see the life of negative people, sitting at home watching TV all day, doing nothing and I don’t want to be like that.

I also love hearing inspiring stories from other business woman and motivational speakers.

What’s the best tips you’ve been given on starting your own business?

Know your why – I heard this from a motivational talk by Michelle Dewberry who was on the Apprentice.

The biggest lesson your kids have taught you that you have implemented in your business?

Time keeping and realising that I can’t work all the time. You have to know how and when to switch off.

What’s your ultimate goal?

Build up my client base, have happy clients that keep coming back to me and be successful.
