#10 How to win awards & gain FREE publicity

I’m the biggest advocate for finding ways to market your business for free and today’s episode is no exception! We’ve already covered how to get more customers without spending a penny and we’ve shown you the step by step process to get your business in the press – great free marketing tips.

Today we delve deep into the world of applying for awards and share some fantastic tips to give you the best chance of being nominated and winning – I was blown away by how simple some of these tips were but that I’ve never even tried!

We are joined by Single Mum, Kiran Singh from West London. She’s an interior designer, life coach, blogger and multi award winning businesswoman. Hats off to this hard working lady.

Kiran has won and been nominated for so many awards that she was the number one choice for this podcast episode!

HOW TO WIN AWARDS & GAIN FREE PUBLICITY 

 We cover all these tips in depth in the podcast but here are the basics

1) START NOMINATING NOW!

Even if you have just launched your business start nominating yourself straight away – it’s that simple.

 

2) AWARDS SEARCH

How can I win awards if there are no awards that I can enter?

This is the wrong question! There are hundreds of awards you can nominate your business for – a quick search on google will leave you flabbergasted with the diversity and scale of the awards world

 

3) DON’T WIN – DOESN’T MATTER

By just being nominated for an award you can generate so much publicity for your business if you take action. Contact your local press and tell them the great news. In episode 5 of the podcast we walk you through step by step how to do this

 

 

4) MAKE AN EFFORT ON THE APPLICATION

Take your time on your application to make sure you stand out from the hundreds of other people applying. If you really want to know how to win awards then take note of this point – write about your personal journey in your award application not just your business achievements.

 

5) GET YOUR WEBSITE UP TO SCRATCH

When the judges consider your application they will go on your website – make sure it looks good and everything is organised. Have a page that is called ‘PRESS’ and add any press clippings, even if its being mentioned on a blog or another website. You could also include customer or client testimonials / reviews.

 

6) POWER OF THE HASHTAG

If you’ve been nominated for an award use the

hashtag #prrequest & #journorequest

so journalists can find you – this is how Kiran got featured in Tesco living, Sainsburys and other well known publications.

 

7) EVENTBRITE

LOVE THIS TIP – I would of never thought to do this, so simple and so effective. Go on Eventbrite and find all the awards ceremonies that are coming up in the next few months and nominate yourself in any relevant categories!
